Chettle Lodge, nestled in the picturesque countryside of Cranborne Chase, offers a peaceful and private retreat for gatherings of family, friends, or colleagues. With eight ensuite bedrooms, this historic house provides a comfortable and characterful setting in the heart of rural Dorset.
Originally part of the Chettle Estate, the Lodge was once home to the beloved Castleman Hotel and Restaurant, known for its warm hospitality, locally sourced food, and relaxed charm. Today, it continues to welcome guests looking for a place to reconnect, unwind, and enjoy the beauty of its surroundings.
Chettle itself is a village with a rich and fascinating past, with roots stretching back over a millennium. The name is thought to derive from the Old English Cietel, meaning ‘a deep valley between hills,’ and has been recorded in historical texts since the Domesday Book of 1086. Over the centuries, the village has been shaped by generations of strong-willed and visionary individuals, from early Neolithic settlers to the Castleman and Bourke families, who worked tirelessly to preserve and revitalise the estate.
Set within this storied landscape, Chettle Lodge provides the perfect base to explore the surrounding countryside, with rolling hills, scenic walks, and easy access to Dorset’s famous landmarks. The nearby Chettle Village Store, housed in a former military Nissan Hut, is a well-loved spot for organic produce, fresh pastries, and local goods—perfect for stocking up during your stay.
Whether you’re looking for a quiet escape, a place to celebrate, or a venue for a creative retreat, Chettle Lodge offers a unique combination of history, comfort, and rural charm.
