Discover Dorset’s Dreamiest Wild Swimming Spots

Looking for a refreshing way to reconnect with nature this summer? Whether you’re a seasoned wild swimmer or simply wild-swim curious, Dorset is home to some truly magical locations where you can dip into crystal-clear waters, unwind in peaceful surroundings, and embrace the elements. Here are some of our absolute favourites.

🌊 Dancing Ledge, Purbeck

A secret carved into the cliffs of the Jurassic Coast, this tidal pool sits on a natural flat rock ledge once used by quarrymen and smugglers. The sea-carved pool fills at high tide and offers an unforgettable coastal dip surrounded by dramatic cliffs.

📍 Postcode: BH19 3LD
🍻 After your swim: Head to the Square and Compass (BH19 3LF) – a charming Dorset pub with sea views and local cider. Only a 6-minute drive away.

🏞️ Lulworth Cove

This world-famous, circular cove is as calm and clear as it is iconic. Its unique shape was formed at the end of the last Ice Age by river and sea erosion. It’s ideal for an early morning swim when the crowds are still sleeping.

📍 Postcode: BH20 5RQ
🍴 After your swim: Enjoy seafood and relaxed coastal dining at Lulworth Lodge, or even stay overnight for the full experience.

🌳 Moreton Ford – River Frome

For a freshwater escape inland, this peaceful stretch of the River Frome is shallow, shaded, and perfect for families or a relaxed paddle. It’s a great spot to pack a picnic and listen to the sounds of summer.

📍 Location tip: Follow signs to Wareham, then Bovington. Park safely and walk down to the ford.

🌅 Worbarrow Bay

Less known than nearby Lulworth Cove, this serene bay offers deep, clean waters and sweeping views of the Purbeck Hills. Accessible via a 1-mile walk from the abandoned village of Tyneham or along the South West Coast Path from Kimmeridge or Lulworth.

📍 Postcode for parking: Tyneham Village
🍽️ Afterwards: The Weld Arms offers seasonal, sustainable local food in a cosy, welcoming setting.

We love the sea-inspired work of Jenny Tarr, a Dorset-based artist whose coastal prints capture the spirit of these wild places beautifully.
